You might be thinking that this sounds too good to be true. You may be thinking that there’s got to be a catch somewhere. Well, my like-minded friend, you are right! There is a catch, which is in keeping with my very first nugget of free business advice to you:

Allow me to demonstrate what I mean by describing exactly what the catch is. The catch is this—that most of those who attempt to implement my business advice will fail. Why? The concepts and business models that I will be describing in detail will be far too advanced for most mere mortals to execute. You will need either a 30-pound brain, an MBA, or a large, preexisting fortune, preferably emanating from a silver spoon, to prop up the business until someone competent can come along and take it from you, whether by boardroom maneuvering or—if you’re lucky—an IPO.

Also, it’s important to note that, while I am giving this advice away for free, I fully intend to extract money from you. I may sell poor quality T-shirts with iron-on logos that come off after two rounds in the dryer. I may serve you ads, which won’t cost you money, but will instead cost you something far more valuable—your time and your sanity. I won’t tell you exactly how I’ll take your money because if I did that, it wouldn’t be a catch.

When you least expect it, though, you will find yourself muttering, “Alex got me. I gave him my credit card number, and now I’m on the hook for a $3 per month subscription. I could cancel it, but it doesn’t hurt enough, so I’ll probably be too lazy to.” Or perhaps “why did I watch that antiperspirant ad? I don’t even wear deodorant! Thirty seconds of time right down the toilet, and he will probably get a nickel out of it.”

I’ll get you; don’t you worry.
